Alysa Heather Young, age 20, of Swift Current, SK, passed away on October 13, 2009. Alysa was born at the Swift Current Regional Hospital on November 10, 1988. Alysa attended kindergarten, grades 1 and 2 at Success School, grade 3 to 5 at Central School, grades 6, 7 and 8 at O.M. Irwin Middle School and graduated from Swift Current Comprehensive High School in 2006. Alysa was a Highland Dancer with the Green Braes Highland Dance Club for 7 years and danced in many local performances and provincial competitions. She was very comfortable and tenderhearted with the elderly so she particularly enjoyed dancing for residents at various Nursing Homes and Care Facilities, always taking time to visit and shake hands with the residents after the performances. Alysa was also a Tenor Drummer with the Green Braes Pipes and Drums for several years and she loved dancing and drumming at Robbie Burns Night. Shortly after Alysa graduated High School, she packed up her T-Bird and moved to Saskatoon. Alysa found employment at a few different places until she obtained a Kennel Attendant position at the Saskatoon SPCA. Alysa continued working in kennels, but also went on to work in the Health Wing and "On Call" for Animal Protection, caring for and loving each animal she encountered. Alysa moved back home to Swift Current in August and planned to return to Saskatoon and her job at the SPCA within a few months. Alysa leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Michelle Young and her brother, Andrew Young. She is also survived by her Grandparents, Peter and Shirley Young; Aunt Karla (Ryan) Young; Uncle Brad (Abbey) Young; cousin, Ash-Lee Hommy; great-grandmother Jean Young; Brian Peck; Candice Homme; and niece, Haidyn. She also leaves to mourn numerous relatives and friends, including extended family members, the McCrie family and her SPCA family. Alysa's love for animals was evident at a very early age, particularly dogs and cats. From the time that Lys was a toddler, she had a gift with animals and they responded to her gentleness and warmth. It bothered Alysa greatly to work with sick and injured animals and we now admire the strength she displayed and her determination to try to make a difference in the lives of animals. In memory of Alysa and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Saskatoon SPCA would be appreciated by the family. The Funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at 2:00 pm from the East Side Church of God, Swift Current, SK, with Pastor Kevin Snyder officiating. A Musical Tribute was brought by the Green Braes Pipes and Drums. Tributes were shared by Virginia Schrutek ~ Saskatoon SPCA, Ash-Lee Hommy ~ Alysa's Cousin, Michelle Young ~ Alysa's Mother and by Andrew Young ~ Alysa's Brother. The ushers in the church were Brian Peck and Ryan Dusener. The Pallbearers were Andrew Young, Brian Peck, Brad Young and Ash-Lee Hommy. Cremation to follow funeral service. In Memory of Alysa Young, donations made to the Saskatoon SPCA would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
