Robert Malcolm Ellis, 68, of Rockcliffe Crescent, Sydney, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Margaret (Burke) Ellis.
Robert was a 1978 graduate of St. Mary’s University and employed with the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation, Halifax, until retirement. He was an avid bowler and a Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan.
Surviving are his sister, Lorraine Burns (Brian Williston), Sydney; brother, Donnie, Sydney; nephews, Donnie (Donna) Magliaro and Kenny Magliaro, Sydney; nieces, Louise (Peter) Kozera and Jaynie Robar, Sydney and Donna Ellis, Florida; best friends, Wendell (Mary) Steele; godson, Adam Magliaro; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews, who he regarded as his own grandchildren.
Robert was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Louie Magliaro.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church on Friday 11 a.m., with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, followed by a reception at Sydney Memorial Chapel.
