THIEL, ROBERT A. - Robert A. Thiel, 83, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Born in Oxnard, California, he was the son of the late August and Lucy (Sickles) Thiel. Robert was a retired English and Spanish Professor at the University of Moncton with over 25 years service. An avid reader, he enjoyed studying languages, classical music, reading and writing poetry, birdwatching and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter. Robert will be sadly missed by his daughter, Maria Knowles (David) of Moncton; son, Chad Thiel of Florida; granddaughter, Abbie Goguen; sister, Thera Rowe (Dwayne) of Nevada, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members in California. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Gloria (Jimenez) Thiel (1976). In keeping with Robert’s wishes, there will be no visitation hours. Funeral service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Saturday October 22, 2011 at 11:00 am with Rev. Harold MacDonald officiating. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service.
