October 31, 1925 - October 9, 2011

Martin John Huber passed away peacefully on October 9, 2011 with his family by his side.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Donna Taylor and Judy (Mark) Anderson, grandchildren, Laura, Eric, Lindsay and Jennifer, great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Caralea, Madison and Harper, brother Frank Huber, in-laws Aldene, Ken, Rhoda, Eileen and Ernie, numerous nieces and nephews, and close family friends Ruth & George Angus.

Martin was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Ellen in 1997.

Martin was born in Mor, Hungary and came to Canada as a young boy. His family resided in Saskatchewan and then Alberta before settling in the Fraser Valley area of B.C. In 1944, at the age of 18, Martin joined the Canadian Army. He saw action in the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Martin was awarded the France-Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45 for his service.

Martin met his wife, Ellen, in Mission, B.C. and they were married in 1951. Martin and Ellen moved to Kamloops where they both worked at the Tranquille TB Hospital, then later moved to the Cariboo where Martin logged with his brother Frank. Martin and Ellen moved back to Kamloops where he returned to work at Tranquille until his retirement in 1983. Martin enjoyed taking family and friends 4x4ing in the hills whenever they came to visit. He also enjoyed many hours hunting and fishing with his close friend George Angus. Martin and Ellen were avid bowlers with the Seniors Bowling League and spent their spare time camping and fishing. Martin took joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was known as Mr. Fix-it to his grandchildren - they always believed that Grandpa could fix anything and he always did. Martin will be remembered for his kindness, patience and quick wit - he was a gentle man and will be missed by all who knew him.

Our hearts were crushed and sore;
We did our best to the end,

In tears we watched you sinking,
We watched you fade away;
And though our hearts
were breaking,
We knew you could not stay.
You left behind some aching hearts,
That loved you most sincere;
We never shall and never will
Forget you Father dear.
