Bylund, Russell D. – 82, North River
Regretfully Russell D. Bylund of North River passed peacefully on Thursday, October 13, 2011 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. His wife Shirley O. (Munroe) Bylund passed in 2003 after a long withstanding battle with cancer. He leaves behind three children, Kenneth R. Bylund (Brenda), New Minas; Sandra O. Chapman (Eldon), North River; Sonja L. Bylund (Gordie), North River; grandchildren, Geoffrey, Peter, Sacha, Shane, Camrin, Lilly; many nieces and nephews. Born in Auburn, Massachusetts, USA on May 15, 1929, he was the youngest passing son of the late Petrus and Cornelia (Jansson) Bylund, originally of Sweden. He is predeceased by brothers, Verner and Harry Bylund; sisters, Vera Rhodes, Olga Roussel, Signe Starr; grandchildren, Jennifer and Brittain. Throughout the years Russell served as an SA in the United States Marine Corps on the USS Power Navy Destroyer, visiting many cities and continents during his years of service. He later eventually moved to Nova Scotia and resumed a life with his wife and children. Once here, he became a long standing member of Cupe Local 1047 via his employment through the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board, where he managed maintenance tasks for many of the school systems throughout this district. He retired in late 1994. A staunch and avid sports fan, it was common knowledge that some of Russell’s favorite teams were the Toronto Argonauts and New York Yankees and Giants. And please, don’t forget the Boston Bruins and New England Patriots. To celebrate his life and commitment to family and friends, visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 18th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. A private family funeral service will be held in his honor at a later date with Rev. John Tonks officiating. Interment in Aenon Baptist Cemetery, North River. No flowers by request.
