Mary Germaine (Gerry) McNeil

MCNEIL, MARY GERMAINE (GERRY) NEE PAQUET (1922 - 2011) - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, "Gerry" on Thursday October 13, 2011 at The Moncton Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Shippagan, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Melvina (Blanchard) Paquet. Gerry is survived by her sons, Paul (Kim) and Peter (Kristine) and her daughters, Pat (Joe) Tippett, Colleen (Cedric) Allaby and Mary (Carmen McAffee); twelve grandchildren, Colin (Carrie) Tippett, Jill (Jason) Hebert, Kevin (Laura) Tippett, Emily (Kirby) Tippett, Sarah Allaby, James Allaby, Alex Allaby, Katie (John) McNeil-Verge, Robbie McNeil, Lauren McNeil, Rebecca McAffee, Sean McAffee; four great grandchildren, Ethan, Nathalie, Madelaine, Brooke. She is also survived by brothers, Norman of Detroit, Michigan and Eddie of Shippagan; as well as sisters, Lorida Hughes of Fredericton, Anita Paquet and Hilda Parent, both of Windsor, ON. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Jim (2000) and her three brothers, Alban, Raymond and Francis. As a young lady in Shippagan, Mom worked at the W.S. Loggie Store, where as the only clerk with a knowledge of English, she became the favorite clerk of Jim - a young anglophone engineer who came into the store each day. In 1947, the dates turned into marriage and she devoted her life to Jim and the five children who followed. Various moves occurred as Jim's work took them to Nashwaak Village, Perth and eventually, Moncton. Mom was a dedicated homemaker first and foremost, and was always boasting about her family to anyone who would listen. A devoted member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, she also volunteered at The Moncton Hospital for over 25 years, where she circulated the book cart and sorted mail. Her dry sense of humour and quick wit were always her trademark. But what she loved most, was the family gatherings when she was able to experience the friendship and admiration within her extended family.
Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Mass at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church, Botsford St., on Monday October 17, 2011 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Michael Toner officiating. Reception in the Parish Hall following the Mass.
