It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of George Wilson Gardner, 74, of Sydney Mines, on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Wilson and Reta (Ford) Gardner. He was a well known meat cutter, having worked in various stores in the area. Wilson enjoyed many Sunday drives with Deanie and camping in the “Camper Jeep”, most often with the grandchildren where they played many games of crib. Wilson also enjoyed fishing, especially at the Seal Pool in Margaree with his best friend Charlie Blackie and brother Paul, and bowling on Friday nights at the Heather Lanes in Sydney. In recent years he and his brother Tommy spent many hours in the hothouse at the family home.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Rodina ‘Deanie’ (Bennett) Gardner; daughters, Brenda (Brian) MacDonald, Whites Lake, Susan (Duane) King, Beaverbank, Kim, Ottawa; son, Robert (Nancy), Hammonds Plains and three treasured grandchildren, who will dearly miss their Poppy, Ryan and Sarah MacDonald and Nathan King; brothers, Tommy (Gwen), Clifford (Joyce), David (Gilda), Carl (Wendy) and Paul and sister, Judy (Dan) Whalen, all of Sydney Mines and sister-in-law, Paula Gardner, Coxheath; also numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by parents, Wilson and Reta (Ford) Gardner and brother, Brian.
Visitation will be in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines on Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held at Carman United Church, Clyde Avenue, Sydney Mines on Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating.
