Alexander Rogers
ROGERS, ALEXANDER - Alexander (AL) Rogers passed away in the early morning of Friday October 14, 2011, surrounded by his family.
He was predeceased by his Scottish wife, Margaret Forrest (Kidd) in 1980, two sisters, Mary (Joseph) MacLean and Margaret (William) Wallace. He is survived by his eight children:
Elizabeth (Ken) Pederson, Evelyn (Jim) Lynch, Barrie (Jack) Cheverie, Patricia (Robert) Cox, Louise (Robert) Gilchrist, William Rogers, Roy (Bonnie) Rogers and Jim Rogers. His fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren will dearly miss their Big Grampie and his nieces and nephews will miss their Uncle Al. His cherished friend, Jean Clements will miss him dearly too. Born in Lanark, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia (July 1923), this farm boy jumped aboard ship at the tender age of 16 and thus began his adventurous life. Soldier, sailor, (Montreal taxi driver!), public relations, radio and television show host and journalist are just a few of the chapters in this man's story. Landing in New Brunswick to work for the Daily Gleaner directed him eventually to his favorite job as editor of the Oromocto Post, especially the column "All Around the Town". He was very proud of being part of this town and one of the founding members of the Korean Veterans Association. Al enjoyed each day to the fullest and his zest for life and great humor will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home on Sunday, October 16th, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A memorial service will be held from St. John's Anglican Church, Oromocto, on Monday, October 17th, 2011 at 10:00 am with Canon Walter Williams officiating. Interment will take place in the St. John's Anglican Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in memory of Al may be made to the Oromocto Food Bank, Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice. www.oromoctofh.com (357-5100)
