CROWE, Charles Ernest “Charlie” – 92, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, October 22, 2009, in Colchester Regional Hospital. Born November 22, 1916, in Beaverbrook, he was a son of the late Peter and Sarah (Burgess) Crowe. Charles was a self-employed plastering contractor and owned his own business, C.E. Crowe Plastering Contracting. After he retired from this, he bought a mill and enjoyed lumbering and farming. He was a man who was very devoted to his work. He was a member of Valley United Church for over 60 years, where he sang in the church choir and served as an elder and on the property committee. He also enjoyed singing with the Novatones Barbershop Choir and dancing. He was a true family man who enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Doris Adele (Joyce); children, June (Lorne) Carter, East Mountain; Sarah Waringer, East Mountain; Charlene (Lloyd) Johnson, Bible Hill; Peter (Anita Keddy), Manganese Mines; grandchildren, Dawn, Troy, Robert, Susan, Jennifer, Janine, Justin, Stephanie, Ashley, Leslie, Daniel; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Irwin, Truro. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by daughter, Adele Sargeant; son-in-law, Hans Waringer; sister, Annie; brothers, Ambrose, Creighton, Jack, Bantford, Harry, Howard; three other siblings in infancy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Charles’ family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Saturday, October 24, 2009. Funeral service will be held 2:30 pm Sunday, October 25, 2009, in Valley United Church, 110 Salmon River Road, Valley, Reverend Brian DeLong officiating. Interment in Crossroads Cemetery. Reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Charles’ memory to Valley United Church are welcomed.
