William Lyon MacKenzie King (Mac) Dixon
On Oct. 15, 2011, Mac Dixon (age 85) passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Whisperwood Villa in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
Mac was born May 7, 1926, and was the son of the late Jack and Edna (Smith) Dixon of South Melville and husband of the late Erma (Ings) Dixon, to whom he was married for 50 years. Mac is survived by his five children: Kenneth (Liane) Dixon of Summerside, Jean Kowalski of Stratford, Janet (Roy) MacPhail of West Royalty, Barry (Paula) Dixon of South Melville and Anne (Stephen) Wilson of Sussex, N.B.; 12 grandchildren: Matthew Dixon, Robert Wood, Sonya (Frank) Suppa, Shawn, Jason, and Ryan Kowalski, Jeff and Jennifer MacPhail, Corey and Evan Dixon, Jordan and Brett Wilson. Mac is also survived by his sister, Marjorie Dixon Faulkner as well as several nieces and nephews and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by an infant grandson, Andrew, in 1988; sister, Gladys in infancy; brother, Gordon, in 1958; and sister, Dorothy (Dixon) Bicknell in 2010.
Mac grew up in South Melville where his family ran the Dixon Mill and where he eventually began his 50-year career in farming. Mac and Erma ran a mixed farm and Mac was extremely proud of his Clydesdale horses, of which he began raising at the age of 19 until he turned 75. Mac was an active member of the Liberal party for many years, and was very proud of the history behind his given name.
Resting at the Dawson Funeral Home, Crapaud, P.E.I., where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18. Reception to be held at the Crapaud Community Center immediately following the service.
There will be no visitation hours by request of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Children’s Wish Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
