It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. John Thomas Bearnes age 77, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Glace Bay Health Care Facility surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary (MacNeil) Bearnes. John was self-employed as a milkman for 47 years in Glace Bay. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport and former member of St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay. John was an avid fisherman, hunter and trapper. He loved the outdoors.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Janet (Walsh); daughters, Sharon (Wayne) MacDonald, Dominion; sons, John ‘Jack’ (Mary), Calgary, Alberta, Bruce (Annabeth), Glace Bay, Kevin (Marguerite), Halifax, Gary (Kim), Glace Bay, Glen, Glace Bay, Donald, Calgary, Alberta; sisters, Bessie (Gerald) Oakley, Sydney, Theresa (Emile) Arsenault, Sydney; 14 cherished grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by daughter, Carol Ann and granddaughter, Carol Ann Bearnes.
In honoring John's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the Lung Association.
