It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Rose McGillivary on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Christine (McMullin) McGillivary.
Barbara worked in the food industry for many years, including Sally Ann Bakery and the Seaview Manor.
She was always a breath of fresh air, with her smiling face and her energetic personality. She enjoyed shopping, music and taking care of stray cats.
Barbara is survived by one son, Robert (Karen); grandchildren, Gregory and Megan MacAulay; sister, Marguerite Luettger (Pie), Surrey, B.C.; sister-in-law, Mona McGillivary; and special niece and nephew, Christina (Clifton) Bailey and Roland (Wendy) Chaput.
Besides her parents, Barbara was also predeceased by sisters, Frances, Isobel, Anna and Johanna, brothers, Robert, Roddie, William and Richard.
Cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the parish of St. Leo’s, New Aberdeen, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Burial to follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery where she will be buried with her parents. A reception to follow in the parish hall.
