It is with broken hearts that we the family announce the death of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ralph MacDonald who passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Alexander and Isabella Boyd (Neilson) MacDonald.
He was a longtime employee of the Glace Bay Bus Company and later Transit Cape Breton. Ralph was a member of the Salvation Army, Glace Bay Citadel where he volunteered for many years with the Red Shield Campaign and the Christmas kettle collection.
Ralph will be dearly missed by his wife of 56 years, Valerie (MacDonald); daughters, Beryl (Jim) Clements, Glace Bay, Belinda (Tom) Carlson, Littleton, Colorado, USA; sons, Darren, Glace Bay, Duane (Karen), Prescott, Ont; brother, Billie MacDonald, New Waterford; and by his grandchildren, special granddaughter, Nerissa (Kent) Short, Bonavista, N.L., Jeremy, Mia, Luke and great-granddaughter, Callie Short. He will also be missed by special niece, Heather and very dear friend, Mary MacNeil.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Alexander ‘Red’ MacDonald.
Visitation for Ralph will be held Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral Service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday at the Salvation Army Citadel, Glace Bay with Captains Joshua and Joyce Downer officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Glace Bay Salvation Army or to a charity of choice.
