It is with great sadness that the family of Muriel Jean Burns announce her peaceful passing on October 23, 2009 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care with her family by her side. Born in Economy Point, Colchester Co., she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Daisy (Perrin) MacLellan. Muriel started her career as a teacher in a one room schoolhouse in Green Oaks. Later she worked at Simpson Sears and Zellers Ltd., both on Prince Street, Truro and finally with Wilson’s Fuels. She was an active member of St. David’s United Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Muriel was a life member of St. David’s UCW and also a Cub leader. Later on she volunteered at the Coffee Shop in the Colchester Regional Hospital. Muriel also enjoyed her card parties and was always ready for a good game of bridge. She is survived by sons, Wilfred (Carol), Nepean, Ont., Brian (Lynn), Bible Hill; sisters, Grace Reynolds, Truro, Alice Morgan, Port Colborne, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Lou MacLellan, Wardner, B.C., Mary MacLellan, Hammonds Plains; granddaughter, Angela, Ottawa, Ont.; step-grandchildren, Menniea Durling, Bible Hill, Joanne Kornder, Kingston, Ont., Donald and David Rutley, Ottawa, Ont. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray; brothers, Doug and Boyd MacLellan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 27 from 7-9 pm; memorial service on Wednesday, October 28 at 11:00 am with Rev. Ebbie W. Snow officiating, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Private family interment in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. Reception following interment at 12 noon in St. David’s Hall, Pictou Road. In lieu or flowers, donations may be made to St. David’s United Church or a charity of your personal choice.
