It with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Edward Ignatius ‘Naish’ Jessome, a longtime resident of Bras d’Or. Naish passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Mill Creek on Nov. 16, 1919, he was the son of the late William and Mary Ann (Marsh) Jessome.
In his early years, he served with the Canadian Army. He later worked in the coals mines and then with Marine Atlantic, from where he retired.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Lilly MacLean; his sisters, Marguerite (Carmen) Jamieson, Halifax, Bridget (Robert) Cox, North Sydney, Isabell (James) Taylor, Florence, and Ellen (Ambrose) Penney, North Sydney; his brothers, Reginald (Lillian), Bras d’Or, and Earl (Gertie), Sydney; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Michael, brothers, Emmett, William R., Thomas, Dennis, John A., sisters, Madonna Annesty, Mary O’Hanion and Anna LeBlanc.
Special thanks to the C.B. Cancer Centre, the staff of 5th floor Northside General Hospital, his family physician, Dr. Knott and to friends and neighbours.
There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
