Our dear Uncle Clyde, 90 years old, passed away peacefully at the pallative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Oct. 18, 2011.
Born Jan. 30, 1921, at Scatarie Island, C.B.
Clyde was the last remaining member of his family.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Ann (Taylor) and his son, Doug, his second wife, Kathleen, sisters, Coleen, Blanche, brothers, Henry and Matthew, parents, Wallace and Ida Mae Phillips.
Left to mourn are his nieces, Iris Lahey, Jennifer Thomas, Gail Phillips; nephews, John, Clifford, Stuart (Cathy), Jimmy (June), Anthony Phillips; also nieces and nephews from the L’ecuyer and Matti families of Ontario.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with The Calgary Regiment (Tank), he served in Europe and was awarded the War Medal 1939-45, Itlay Star, France and Germany Star,1939-45 Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Clasp to the CVSM.
He was a member of Port Morien Legion Branch 55.
Clyde was employed for 35 years with Pitt Steel Corp., Ontario, as a foreman and draftsman until his retirement.
Besides the love for his family, Clyde loved animals and he owned and showed Kerri Blue Terriers. He travelled all across Canada showing them and won many national awards.
At the age of 75 Clyde returned home to Cape Breton, fulfilling his dream to live in his childhood village of Mira Gut. He was always busy in his gardens and loved mackerel fishing. Uncle was known as a gentleman and a true Christian to all his family friends and neighbours. He was always willing to lend a helping hand.

As expressions of sympathy for Clyde, donations may be made to the Pallative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia.
Visitation will be held at Patten Funeral Home on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Baptist Church, York Street, Glace Bay, with Rev. Gary Dillon officiating.
Reception to follow at Baptist Church Hall on York Street, Glace Bay.
