Charles Lawrence Taylor passed away peacefully at the Northside Community Guest Home on Oct. 19, 2011, with his family by his side.
Born in Sydney Mines on Aug. 21, 1918, he was a son of the late Charles L. and Jean (Donovan) Taylor.
Charles was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Charles was known as a sharply dressed man who always wore his “Stetson hat” tilted to one side. He was raised Catholic, and along his journey, married Margaret Williston and raised a big family, including many grandchildren. Charlie spent over 45 years of his life as a dedicated coal miner, mining throughout Cape Breton Island. After his retirement he developed a great love for nature and animals, a passion for music and dancing, and enjoyed building and construction as a pastime, as well as being an avid card player. His grandchildren kept his life busy and full of surprises. He will be remembered most for his lifelong compassion to others and his willingness to lend a hand whenever needed.
Charles is survived by children, Lawrence (Pat), New Brunswick, Delories (Adrian), British Columbia, Loretta (Gordon), Alfred (Natalie), Carolyn (Ralph), all of North Sydney, Michael (Melissa), Sydney Mines, Catherine, Alberta, Joanne, Ontario, Brenda (Lawrence), Georges River, Amanda, Sydney Mines, Robyn (Jeff), Millville; cherished 24 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret, brothers, John and Thomas, sisters, Jenny and Delores, sons, Robert Angelo and William Charles.
The Taylor family wish to thank the nursing staff on 4th and 5th floors of the Northside General Hospital and Northside Community Guest Home for the care and compassion shown to our dad during his stay with them.
