It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother, Mary Emma Sampson at the Cove Guest Home on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011.
Born on Jan. 31, 1921, in Millville, Codroy Valley, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Ryan) Smith.
Mary worked at the Sydney City Hospital for 30 years in the Dietary Department. She enjoyed playing bingo and scat with her friends for many years.
Surviving are her son, Ernie (Colleen); daughters, Mary Kay MacVicar and Marion Lawson (Mike), Sydney; brother, John Joe (Lisa), Fredericton, N.B.; stepsister, Gertrude (John) Nugent; stepbrothers, Mike (Debbie) Smith and Art (Beverly) Smith, New Waterford and Ernest (Patricia), Calgary; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard (Peg) Sampson; son, Ronnie Sampson; stepmother, Mary (Kelly) Smith; sister, Mildred Ann Stevens; brother, Patrick Smith; stepbrother, Tom Smith; grandsons, Shawn Sampson and Jamie MacVicar; son-in-law, Angus MacVicar; and daughter-in-law, Ruthie Sampson.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will take place at Holy Redeemer Church on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at 11 a.m, with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment in New Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Holy Redeemer Building Fund or a charity of choice.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff of the Cove Guest Home for all the care given to our mother.
