Jeanette MacLean (Roper)
Born In: Ingonish, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed in: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: October 21st, 2011
With deep sorrow, the family of Jeanette MacLean announce her passing on Oct. 21, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Mom was born in Ingonish in 1927. She moved to Sydney at the age of 15 to work as a domestic and later married George MacLean in 1947 and resided in South Bar where they raised their 5 children. Mom often joked about being the “unpaid” and “unofficial” Assistant Lighthouse Keeper in South Bar since she assisted dad so much in his role as the official Lighthouse Keeper. In good humor Mom loved to laugh at her own mishaps and those of others. She was very kind and generous and made many sacrifices for the betterment of her loved ones. Mom’s role model was her beloved Nanna who she remembered with adoration even in her last days.
Jeanette is survived by her daughters Linda and Brenda MacLean both of Sydney; three sons Arnold MacLean, Ontario, Paul (Lori) MacLean, South Bar, and Les (Kelly) MacLean, Sydney Forks; five grandchildren, Kevin, Jason, Tracy, Ashley and Robyn; seven great-grandchildren, Alyssia, Tevin, Riley, Justin, Sydney, Paige and Haley.
She is also survived by her sister Dianne (Gordon) MacLean; and brothers Carl, Earl, Stewart and Eddie Roper.
Jeanette is predeceased by her parents Harvey and Mary (McGean) Roper; husband George MacLean; sisters, Valda, Hilda, Christy and Pearl; and brothers, Ben, Keith, Jim, Emerson and Albert.
Visitation will be held Sunday October 23, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral service to take place on Monday October 24, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Michael Butterfield officiating. Interment to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Jeanette was an adherent of Westminster Bible Presbyterian Church in Sydney.
