AVERY, Joan Zilphy (Hayes) - 64, of New Minas, Kings County, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Scott) Hayes. She had been employed at West Kings Rural High School for many years and enjoyed gardening and animals, especially her dog. She is survived by her two sons, Darren (Tina) Durling, Windermere, Kings County and Darrell, Cambridge, Kings County; four grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, Amanda and Anthony. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lewis Avery, a brother, Donnie Hayes and a grandson David. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. Visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Doctor John McNally officiating. Burial took place in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the IWK Health Centre or the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses.
