BLADES, Paul Alfred – 58, Yarmouth, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 16, 2011 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born March 3, 1953 in Yarmouth, he was a son of Ruth (Muise) Blades and the late Chesley Blades. Paul was working as the parts manager at Green’s Auto, having also worked in the parts department at Motor Mart, Yarmouth, for a number of years. He was a veteran of the Yarmouth Fire Department, having served with Salvage Corps, Company No. 6. He was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 61, Yarmouth. Paul enjoyed playing pool, but he was a die-hard baseball fan, having played with the Yarmouth Gateways and currently with the Brazil Lake Oldtimers, having won many awards throughout the years. When he wasn’t playing baseball, he was rooting for the Boston Red Sox. Aside from his mother, Ruth, he is survived by his companion, Susan Fitzgerald, as well as by brothers, Neil (Geraldine) Blades, Yarmouth, Kevin (Jane) Blades, Cheoggin and Brad Blades, Yarmouth, as well as nephews, Phillip and Justin; nieces, Lisa McCormack and Monica Grover. Aside from his father, Chesley, he was predeceased by a brother, Brian “Bobo” Blades, and a nephew, Neil Blades Jr. Visitation took place from 2-4 & 7-9 Tuesday, with prayers at 8 p.m. at H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, where the funeral was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 19, Father John MacPherson officiating, assisted by Rev. A. D. (Bill) Newell. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. It was requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Yarmouth Over 35 Baseball Fundraising Association through Coastal Financial Credit Union in Yarmouth or through Huskilson’s Funeral Home.
