DOUCETTE, Velma Bernadette – 88, Yarmouth, formerly of Wedgeport, passed away on October 16, 2011 at The Meadows Home for Special Care, Yarmouth. Born February 20, 1923 in Wedgeport, Velma was a daughter of the late Louis and Julienne (Doucet) LeBlanc. She was a homemaker and loved to knit. She had a green thumb and enjoyed flowers, gardening, and taking care of her plants. After her husband’s death, she worked in the kitchen at Villa St. Joseph-du-Lac for a number of years, having also babysat for 2 or 3 years. She is survived by her son, Carl (Wanda), Chegoggin; daughters, Elaine (Henry) Surette, and Agnes (Ivan) Saulnier, both of Pinkney’s Point; brothers, Billy LeBlanc, Wedgeport; Leonard (Linda) LeBlanc, Rockville; sisters, Katie Doucette, and Rose Atkinson, both of Wedgeport; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael F. Doucette; companion, Frank Muise; sons, Joseph and Michael, both in infancy; Wayne Doucette; daughter, Francine, in infancy; sisters, Marion LeBlanc, Daisy Fitzgerald, Marguerite Surette and Edna Vacon; brothers, Martin and Howard LeBlanc. Funeral arrangements were under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport, with visitation from 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday October 18, with prayers at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Fr. Wieslaw Papuga officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Velma’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society, St. Michael’s Cemetery Fund or charity of ones choice.
