SURETTE, Françoise “Madeline” – 97, St. Joseph Villa du Lac, Dayton, formerly of Wedgeport. It’s with great sadness that the family of the late Françoise “Madeline” (Pothier) Surette announces her passing on October 16, 2011 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Yarmouth. Born in Wedgeport on July 25, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Denis and Deline (LeBlanc) Pothier. She was a providing and loving mother to M. Elizabeth Doucette, and Donald (Ellen Ann) Surette, both of Wedgeport; brother, Joseph (Annette) Pothier, Wedgeport; sisters, Lorraine Boudreau, Arlington, Massachusetts, and Rose Marie (Nick) Pineo, Summerside, PE; a proud grandmother to Alice, Warren, Sheldon, Debbie, and Wayne; she also loved her six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George “Lellis” Surette where in heaven they are making great harmony; sons, Jean Baptiste, and Roland Vincent Surette; brothers, Ruben, Mark, Charles, and Alvin Pothier; sisters, Laura Bradley, and half sister Doris Pothier; and several other siblings in infancy and young ages. Madeline was well known for her passions in life which comprised of her piano playing and her great pride in her cooking abilities. She also enjoyed playing cards and singing. She was a homemaker most of her life. She worked for the Sisters of Charity in Wedgeport as a cook and housekeeper for several years. She also was a member of the Wedgeport New Horizons Club and several choirs. Funeral arrangements were under the care and direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport, with visitation from 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday October 19, with prayers at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian burial was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 20 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Madeline’s memory may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church or the parish cemetery fund.
