Wilfred ‘June’ Etheridge of Margaree Forks passed away Oct. 24, 2009, at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care Residence in Sydney, N.S.
Born in North East Margaree on Feb. 8, 1926, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Minnie (Munroe) Etheridge.
June always enjoyed spending time outdoors. He worked in the forestry industry for most of his working life. When not at work in the woods he could usually be found either fishing or hunting or walking in the woods. Having been born and raised on a farm he also had a desire for farming, usually keeping some livestock and a thriving vegetable garden at his home in Margaree Forks. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family; spending evenings playing cards, telling stories and enjoying the company and entertainment of his grandchildren. After his retirement he was able to pursue his passions of salmon fishing and deer hunting, which he did with great enjoyment for many years.
June is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy (MacDonald); daughter, Linda (Allan Andrews), Sydney River; son, Rick (Gail), Howie Centre; grandchildren, Amanda and Krista (Andrews) and Brooklyn, Sheridee and Neva (Etheridge); brothers, Fraser and Russell, both of Margaree Forks; and sister, Joyce (Don Crowell), Halifax.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Donald and sisters, Olga, Bess and Georgie.
Visitation for June will take place Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home in Margaree Valley. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Wilson United Church, Margaree Centre, with Rev. Karen Lynch officiating. Burial will follow at the Methodist Cemetery, North East Margaree.
Donations in June’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Alzheimer Society or a charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of the Sunset Funeral Co-operative, Margaree Valley.
