THORBURN – Charles Wesley Cooley, age 79 of the Old Row, Thorburn, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Pugwash, he was a son of the late Charles and Katherine (Ettinger) Cooley.
Charles was a resident of Thorburn for the past 60 years.
He worked in the mines in his early years, then went on to manage G.W. Holmes Trucking, retiring from Weeks Construction.
Charles was an adherent of the Union Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Thorburn Fire Dept.
Surviving are his wife the former Marion MacDonald; daughters, Kathy Cooley (Vernon Palmer), Pleasant Valley; Julie Ann Cooley (Ken Upham), North River; sons: James (Nadine) of New Glasgow; Greg (Isabel) of Thorburn; Ray (Lorraine) of Abercrombie; Doug (Lynn) of Thorburn; Mike (Joan) of Thorburn; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; sisters, Charlotte (Honey) Rhyno of Meiklefield; Joyce Hill of Whitefish, Ont.
Charles was predeceased by a brother David and sisters Tilly and Kaye.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, from where a memorial service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Burial will be in the Thorburn Cemetery.
Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Charles may be made to the Thorburn Fire Dept. or to a charity of one’s choice.
