Ruth Naylor
It is with great sadness that the family of (Evelyn) Ruth Naylor announces her death on October 23, 2011 in her 85th year at Gables Lodge, Amherst, NS.
Ruth was born in Maccan N.S. and was the daughter of the late Evelyn (nee bishop) and Dr. David Drury. She was predeceased by her husband, Lionel Naylor and her brother, Stewart Drury.
Ruth received a Bachelor Arts degree from Mt. Allison University in 1947 and completed her training to become a Registered Nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal in 1950. After raising her family, she returned to nursing and worked at the Highland View Regional Hospital in Amherst from 1980 to 1990.
Ruth’s greatest joys in life were her family, time at the cottage and her love of music. She was a member of the Trinity- St. Stephen’s United Church choir for most of her life. Ruth and her husband Lionel took great pleasure in attending local musical and theatrical performances and were strong supporters of the Amherst Regional High School music program. Ruth also devoted her time to many causes and charities including the Food Bank, Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels and the Women’s Hospital Auxiliary.
Many will remember Ruth for her kind and generous nature and her positive outlook on life. She will be greatly missed by her brother Kenneth Drury; her children Robert (Nancy) Naylor, Halifax; Ian (Kathy) Naylor, Amherst; Stewart (Sherry MacFarlane) Naylor, Dartmouth; Carol (Mark Dunphy) Naylor, Vancouver; and 6 Grandchildren: David, Laura, Heather, Scott, Carolyn and Michael.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. in Trinity-St. Stephens United Church, Amherst with The Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating.
Interment will take place at the Amherst Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Trinity-St. Stephens United Church or the Amherst Food Assistance Network Association (Food Bank).
