Passed on: October 22nd, 2011

It is with profound sadness and yet with much joy for a life well lived that we, the family of Jonena (Jon) MacLeod, announce her passing on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at Alderwood in Baddeck.
Born on Christmas Day, 1913, Jonena was the daughter of the late Dan Frank and Katie (MacRitchie) Matheson. She was one of six daughters and two sons who grew up on the farm in Aberdeen. Her adult life was spent in Baddeck which she loved dearly. For many years, she worked with her husband, Douglas, in the family business, J.P. MacLeod & Sons and later, in the tourism industry at Bute Arran and The Silver Dart Motel.
Jonena loved people and was always very involved with her family and her community. She helped many young people who lived with her as they began their lifes journey. She was instrumental in forming the first Brownie pack in Baddeck and years later helped found the first Beaver Colony. For 38 years, she was active in Greenwood Sunday School. She was a life member of the Alexander Graham Bell Club, a charter member of the South Haven Weaver's Guild, a past Matron of Eastern Star, a proud honourary member of the Conservative Party, to name but a few of her many activities.
Besides her parents, Jonena was predeceased by her husband, Douglas; her sisters, Maybelle Matheson, Christine Cameron, Harriet Morrison and her brother, Leonard Matheson.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Catherine (Wayne) Crawford and Phyllis Roberts; her grandchildren, Patrick (Helen) Crawford, Jeannie (Salar Madadi) Crawford, Matthew (Michelle) Roberts and Abby (Trevor) Barclay and six great-grandchildren, all of whom she was very proud. Also left to mourn her passing are her brother, Frankie (Ann) Matheson; her sisters, Jamie Ross and Mary (Wilfred) Asaph and her many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation for the late Jonena MacLeod will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27 at MacAskill's Funeral Home in Baddeck. Funeral service will take place at Greenwood United Church at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011.
Family flowers only. Donations in Jonena's memory may be made to the Baddeck Hospital Auxiliary.
