It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Alex Young, age 82, on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney.
Born in Bras d’Or on Feb. 10, 1929, Alex was the son of the late Lowery and Kathleen (Chisholm) Young. He was employed for many years at MacNeils FNS store and the Bras d’Or Co-op until his retirement. Alex loved harness racing and made many trips to Prince Edward Island during “Old Home Week” with his friend Ralph King for that special race. He enjoyed watching all sports on TV and was always animated in discussions about politics. Alex was a man of great kindness and love, with a great faith in God. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Bras d’Or.
Alex is survived by his brothers, Roy (Eileen) Young, John (Rosaire) Young and his sister, Jean Settle, many nieces and nephews and cousins and his companion, Agnes Bailey.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Dave, Lawrence, George and Jimmie Young.
The family wish to extend their sincere thanks to all the staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care for the wonderful care given to Alex.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass for Alex will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or with Rev. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery, Bras d’Or.
Arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
