Willena "Wilma" Mattie Carruthers

CARRUTHERS, Willena “Wilma” Mattie - 94, Brentwood passed away peacefully October 25th at the Brentwood Ponds – Retirement Estate in Brentwood, Nova Scotia. Born 1916 in Loch Lomond, Richmond County, she was the oldest daughter of the late Donald Neil and Christina Lottie (MacKay) Morrison. She was an active member of First United Church and United Church Women (UCW) Truro, the Women’s Progressive Conservative Association and the Rebekahs, Truro. After completing High School in Glace Bay she attended the Provincial Normal College graduating in 1939. Wilma began her career as a teacher in Cape Breton and then went on to work at the Nova Scotia Farm Loan Board retiring in 1987. She is predeceased by her husband Leslie Murray Carruthers; and survived by her daughter Brenda Wilson (Jim), Sydney River; son John (Jan), Bedford; her grandchildren Pamela, Bradley James, Alexander, Patrick, Nicholas, great grandson William, and brother Kenneth Morrison, Sydney. She is predeceased by her sister Anna Archer. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 27 from 7-9 pm, funeral service on Friday, October 26, at 2 pm, both in the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with Rev. David Lutes officiating. Interment will be in Bell Gift Cemetery, West New Annan. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the First United Church, Truro or a charity of choice. Special thanks to the staff of the Brentwood Ponds – Sheila, Chuck, Donna and Christine who provided special care for her.
