Barney Hunter
HUNTER, BARNEY - Barney Hunter, 87, of Moncton, passed away on Monday October 24, 2011 at the K. E. Spencer Memorial Home after a brief illness. Barney was born in Rodney, Nova Scotia. He was the son of the late Abram A. and Gladys (Stevens) Hunter. Barney served in WWII in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He was employed by the Canadian National Railway for 28 years. Barney was a member of the Lewisville Baptist Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6 and honorary member of the Knights of Pythias (Springhill, NS). Barney is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Frances (Ryan) Hunter; his daughter, Hilary Snell (Stephen) of Ammon; grandchildren, Timothy of New Hampshire, USA, Robert and Heidi, both of Ammon and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Cora Jane Scott, Margaret Gordon and Ruth Mills and his brothers, Alex McLean and Lorne, as well as four infant siblings.
In keeping with Barney’s wishes, there will be no public visitation hours. Moncton Legion Branch # 6 Memorial Service will be held at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Friday October 28, 2011 at 11:00 am, followed immediately by the Funeral Service. Interment will be in the Hopewell Hill Cemetery in Hopewell Hill, NB. The family would like to thank each member of the Spencer Home team for the loving and professional care that they gave to Barney while he resided with them.
