With deepest regret, we, the family of Leonard Cann announce the passing of a wonderful father, great brother, loving husband and uncle. Leonard passed away Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a very brief illness.
Born in Sydney Mines, Dec. 19, 1928, he was the son of the late John and Jessie (Baker) Cann.
Leonard was a retired coal miner, having worked for Devco for many years. He was also a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 8, Sydney Mines. He was an avid gardener and spent many hours tending his vegetable and flower gardens.
Leonard will be sadly missed by his daughter, Debbie (Robert) Herridge; sister, Marilyn; brothers, Murray and John (Debbie); numerous nieces, nephews; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law. He will also be sadly missed by his furry friend, his cat Smudge.
Besides his parents, Leonard was predeceased by his beloved wife Kay, brother Billy, and sister Catherine.
In honouring Leonard’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A time to share memories and celebrate the life of Leonard Cann will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rick Barnes officiating. Interment will be in Calvin United Church Cemetery, Upper Leitches Creek.
