MERRETT, ALAN AUSTIN - The passing of Alan Austin Merrett of Geary NB occurred at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Thursday, October 27, 2011. He was 85. Born in Cardiff Wales, he was the son of the late William Stanley and Alice Louise (Mitchell) Merrett. Having worked in the woods and as a mechanic his entire life he was the last remaining member of his immediate family. Survived by four sons; William Merrett (Roxanne) Geary NB, Michael Merrett (Bonnie) Geary NB, Richard Merrett (Sandy) Tracy, NB, Steve Justason, Moncton NB, five daughters; Alice Harnish (Gary) French Lake NB, Susan MacDonald (Ralph) French Lake NB, Wanda Ringuette (Pete) Haneytown NB, Karen DeWolfe-Cox, Fredericton and Linda Cassie (Don) Haneytown NB, numerous grand and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Margaret, two brothers Stanley and George, two sisters Megan and Vera, and two grandchildren Kyra and Claude.
Resting at Bishop’s Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road where the family will receive friends and visitors on Sunday, October 30 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A memorial service will take place on Monday, October 31 from Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel at 2 PM with Rev. Canon Walter Williams officiating. Interment to follow in the St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery in Oromocto. Honorary Pallbearers for the service will be Alan’s grandsons.
