It is with great sadness, the loving family of Douglas Peter Walker announce his passing on Oct. 28, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Dougie was a mechanical superintendent of Atomic Energy at the Heavy Water Plant in Glace Bay and then went on to start his own business, Doug Walker Contracting Ltd. which he operated until his retirement. Dougie was always involved in various aspects of construction and was very much respected by his co-workers. He was always around to lend a helping hand to his many friends and beloved family.
Dougie was very passionate of his home town community of Frenchvale. He was active in the Frenchvale Volunteer Fire Department, St. Mary’s Recreation Association, and a board member of the Talbot House.
Dougie was born June 28, 1936, to Donald and Mary (MacMullin) Walker, in his family home in Frenchvale.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife and best friend of 52 years, Andrea (MacNeil) Walker. Dougie’s greatest joy in life were his children, Kathy (Eric) MacRae, Donald, Kim (Albert) Jollymore, Kevin (Gabe), Kent (Kareen), Koreen (Patrick) Lahey and his grandchildren, Natasha (Chad) Martin, Joel, Francis, Stephen, Mary Kate, Meaghan, Sarah Jane, Hannah, Kelcie and Patrick Douglas.   We will all remember Grampy calling us by his famous nicknames.
Dougie is survived by his three sisters, Mary Jeanette Bennett, Rhodena (Michael) Currie and Christina (Victor) MacDonald. He will also be missed by his best buddy, Bronte.
Dad will be joining in heaven his son, Douglas Gerard, brothers, John and Danny and sister, Katie Wall.
Dougie was a devout member of St. Mary’s Church of Frenchvale.

“Rest in peace, Grampy, where at last breathing will come easy and you can now build and fix things to your heart’s content. Words can’t describe the loss we feel. You are so loved and will be so missed! Heaven now has the perfect Mr. Fix-it and we all have the perfect angel watching over us.”
