Helen Henwood
Helen "Pinkie" Henwood It is with sadden hearts that we announce the death of our sister, aunt and friend, Helen Esther (Ryan) Henwood, 84 years, who passed peacefully on October 28, 2011 at High Crest Nursing Home, Springhill. Helen, known to everyone as "Pinkie", was born on January 9, 1927, to the Late Charles and Margaret (Hunter) Ryan and lived her entire life in Springhill.
As a child, she enjoyed time at family cottages at Partridge Island and Pinky's Point, Parrsboro. She later purchased her own cottage at Heather's Beach, where she treasured many summer days with her family.
Pinkie entered the work force at the age of 15, first working at Hyatt's Restaurant and the Carlton Hotel. Her next job was at All Saint's Hospital where she worked for over 34 years, first in the kitchen and then as a supervisor in the laundry department until her retirement in 1987.
In 1965 she married Donald Henwood who preceded her in 1968 as the result of an accident. She never remarried and often spoke of "her Don".
Pinkie was a long time member of Home League and enjoyed the socials immensely, having won first place for best Halloween costume on more than one occasion. She like to dance, had a great sense of humour, and enjoyed a good laugh, drives and people watching. Pinkie loved animals and always had a pet which she called "her baby" and, of course, she spoiled them all.
She is survived by sisters, Kathleen (Kay) Ryan and Elizabeth (Betty) Henwood, brother, Pat Ryan (Delores); several nieces and nephews including Angela Ryan Bourgeois (Aaron), Charles Ryan (Jessie) and Cory Frances, sister-in-law, Jean Martin (Rod) and Andrew Melanson (Stephanie).
She was predeceased by sisters, Edna Kavalak and Bonnie Mattinson; infant brothers, Charles and Patrick.

Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill.
