TEICHROEB - Katherine (Kay) of Swift Current, SK, went to be with her Lord and Savior at the Palliser Regional Care Centre on October 22, 2009. Kay was born on November 15, 1919, in the Swift Current area. Through her childhood her family moved from Beverly to McMahon and then to the “Voult Laucht” in Rosenhof. In her early 20’s, she worked in Swift Current as a house keeper/nanny for a few different families, and she also worked in the hospital in Vanderhoof. She liked to tell stories and reminisce about that time in her life. On September 6, 1953, Kay married Jake Teichroeb and they lived in Vanderhoof, the Dunkley Lumber Camp, Prince George, Quesnel and then retired to Swift Current in 1994. Kay enjoyed crocheting, playing games with friends and going to the mall. Her favourite browsing items were purses, jewellery, accessories and clothes. She enjoyed TV shows like ‘The View’ and the ‘News’. Kay also enjoyed talking about politics, current events and traveling. She often traveled by bus to visit family. A retirement highlight was an Alaskan Cruise with her sister Pauline. In 2005, she went to Enderby, BC, with Ben and Marge to a Teichroeb Family reunion. In November 2005, she had a major stroke which did not allow her to go home. She remained in the capable and caring hands of the staff at the Palliser Regional Care Centre until her passing. Kay was predeceased by her husband, Jake, in 2000; her parents, Margaretha and Johan Banman, in 1965; her sisters, Agnes Knelsen, Anna Schlamp, Margaret Heinrichs, and Mary Unger; her brother, John Banman; and many in-laws. She is survived by her family, Ben and Marge Banman, their children: Kevin (Trudi) Banman, Shania, Ashley, Ty and Cade: Karen (Mike) Campbell, their children, Kaleb, Kortni and Kendra: Koreen (Clay) Nelson. She is also survived by her siblings, Susan (Harry) Wiebe, Isaac Banman, Pauline (Tony) Johner and Frank (Lynn) Banman. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at 10:30 am from the Cornerstone Fellowship Church, Swift Current, SK, with Pastor Peter Janzen officiating. The pianist for the service was Jim Neufeld with special music brought by Lorraine Dyck and Bryon Bezanson singing, “O, Amazing”. Kevin Banman read scripture from Psalm 46:1-7 and John 14:1-6. “What a Day That Will Be”, “When We All Get to Heaven” and “Are You Washed In the Blood” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Trudi Friesen. The obituary was shared by Karen Campbell and Koreen Nelson with great grandchildren reading a poem. The ushers in the church were Jake Driedger and Pete Heinrichs. The Interment Service was held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK, with the following serving as pallbearers, Kevin and Trudi Banman, Karen and Mike Campbell and Koreen and Clay Nelson. In memory of Kay Teichroeb, donations made to Rock Solid Refuge at www.rocksolidrefuge.com would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
