On October 28, 2011, Herbert (Bert) Wallace Huntington passed away peacefully in Kamloops at the age of 91. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife - Margaret, daughters - Kathleen (Dennis) Johnson of South Surrey and Lorna (Brian) Bussa of Michigan, sons - John and Cal of Kamloops, sisters - Edith (Harry) Curtis of Langley and Joan (Arthur) O'Keefe of California as well as grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Bert was predeceased by his parents - Martha and John Huntington and his sister - Ruth, and his brother - Kenneth.
Bert was only too happy to tell you he grew up in Sydney, NS. He attended Radio College in Toronto and left to join the RCAF and became a Flight Officer during WWII. Fortunately, he survived two near misses, one being the time his plane ran out of fuel over the ocean and the other the time being when a gunshot injured his hand. Upon discharge, he and his family moved to Cloverdale where he met his beloved wife of 57 years.
Bert worked as an Immigration Officer at the border crossings, in New Westminster, Vancouver and Prince George. In 1970, Bert transferred to Manpower in Kamloops where he became a vocational counsellor at Cariboo College, from which he retired in 1983.
Bert was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Cloverdale, Prince George and Kamloops for 53 years. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. During his retirement, he and Margaret traveled extensively, visiting all seven continents.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 4th, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kamloops United Church.
