It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lewis Otto Long, age 88, Camro Place, Cambridge, Kings County and formerly of Bear River East, Annapolis County announce his passing in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS on Monday, October 31, 2011. Dad passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bear River, he was the son of the late Otto and Reta (Chute) Long. For nearly 30 years, Dad was a butcher and meat peddler in Annapolis and Digby Counties making many lifelong friends. Following his years of being the "meat man", he worked at Upper Clements Wildlife Park. Dad loved the outdoors and had a passion for hunting, fishing, canoeing and enjoying time with his family whom he cherished. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his second wife Ruth (Tompkins) Wilkinson, two sons, Roger (Ann) of Coldbrook, Rodney (Gaynell) of Amherst, and daughter, Myrna (Jay) Verge of Cambridge, his sister, Hilda (Esmond Jr.) Whynott of Lower Branch, Queens County. He was a special grandfather to Christa (Scott) MacDonald, Scott (Cheryl) Long, Rose (Chad) Clarke, Peter (Amy) Long, Graham (Jackie) Long, Cara Dawn (Corey) Pierce, Allison (Evan) Collins, Denise and Tracey Verge as well as 11 special great grandchildren and 2 nieces. Dad is also survived by three step children, Joan (Howard) Pratt of Woodstock, NB; Connie (Keith) Ford of Winsloe North, PEI and Randy (Cathy) Wilkinson of Woodstock. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years, Viola (Trimper) Long. A special thank you to staff of Evergreen Nursing Home and Doctors and Nurses at Valley Regional Hospital who gave such wonderful care and kindness to Dad in the last 11 months. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. Mr. Wayne Hutchinson and Mr. Eric Lockhart will officiate. Interment will follow in the Clementsvale Cemetery at 3 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation.
