ROBINSON, LCdr (ret.) Douglas W.J. – 71, of Parrsboro, Cumberland Co. passed away Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Moncton City Hospital, Moncton, NB. Born in London, Ont., he was a son of the late Irving and Dorothy (Barnes) Robinson. Doug joined the military in 1956 serving with the Canadian Armed Forces until his retirement in 1992. Throughout his military career, he served in numerous capacities at such bases as Halifax, Shearwater, Edmonton and Germany. Following his retirement, he moved to Parrsboro with his wife, Shirley. Doug was most active in his community with such organizations as the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch #45), Parrsboro; was Chairman of the Board for the Ship’s Company Theatre; served on St. George’s Anglican Church executive and numerous church committees; CREDA; the Parrsboro Lions Club; Parrsboro & District Board of Trade; the Parrsboro Shore Historical Society; and was a member of Minas Masonic Lodge, Parrsboro. He was a Commanding Officer for 689 Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron. In 1994, Doug was elected to Parrsboro Town Council and in 1997 was elected Mayor where he served four consecutive terms. He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Warren; daughters, Jacqueline Caissie (Peter), Rusagonis, NB; Susan Campbell (Anthony), Burton, NB; son, Robert Douglas (Shelley), Dartmouth; step-son, Rocky Warren (Janice), Riverview; sisters, Ruth Proctor, London, Ont.; Pat Cochrane (Robert), North Bay, Ont.; Lyllas Gaskell (John), London, Ont.; Joanne White (Harold), Lawrencetown; brothers, Robert (Kathy), Waseaga Beach, Ont.; Richard (Judy), London, Ont.; John (Diane), Sarnia, Ont.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Albert. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 pm Wednesday at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday [October 29, 2009] in the Parrsboro United Church, the Rev. Tory Byrne officiating. Burial in St. George’s Anglican Cemetery, Parrsboro.
