Allison Joseph Douglas Gallant age 87 of Maccan, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan.
Born in Amherst, he was the only son of the late Alice Maude Gallant.
Allison attended the St. Charles School and later joined the Canadian Military where her served with the Air Force. He also worked for the Atlantic Wholesalers, Amherst and was a pipe fitter working in various places around the Maritimes and USA. In his younger years, Allison played for the Amherst Ramblers. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a great love for animals, especially dogs and was the first person in Amherst to raise German Shorthair Pointer.
He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his wife the former, Audrey Slack; his son, Richard Wayne McKay and his mother, Isabel McKay both of Amherst; stepchildren, Charlie (Arlene) Slack and Barbara (Vincent Brown) Stewart both of Pickering ON, and John (Cathy) Slack of London ON; cousin (special sister) Connie (Carver) Cormier of Dorchester NB, Jean Stockall of Moncton, NB and Bud Gallant of USA; grandson, Jimmy (Julie Paris) McKay of Amherst; many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; special step granddaughter, Pam as well as many friends and neighbors.
He was predeceased by his first wife the former Helen Nelson.
No visitation by request.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 2 p.m. from Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) with Rev. Pam Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in the Fenwick Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations in Allison's memory may be made to the LA Animal Shelter or the charity of your choice.
