Archibald ‘Skipper’ MacQueen, 87, of Port Morien, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009 at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex, with his family by his side.
Born in Port Morien, he was the son of the late Duncan Archibald and Jane (Wadden) MacQueen.
He was a member of St. John’s United Church, Port Morien, where he served as a member of the session for many years. He was a lifetime member of the choir. He was employed with the Cape Breton Development Corp. for 46 years as a payroll clerk. He also served as a volunteer fireman for 25 years. His greatest joy was time spent with his family; and he always had a special place in his heart for animals.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margie; three daughters, Lois (Rod) Partin, Calgary, Ethel (Barrie) Campbell, Glace Bay, Ginny (Glenn) McLanders, Tanglewood; four sons, Allan, Calgary, Duncan, Port Morien, John (Anne), Brampton, ON, Stephen (Diane), Calgary; grandchildren, Michael and Lindsay Partin, Brandon and Kelsey MacQueen, Jeff, Leah and Anna Campbell, Lauren and Korri MacQueen, Jenna, Brett and Mark McLanders, Shailynn and Faith MacQueen, Jamie and Katie MacQueen and great-granddaughter, Mya. Also surviving is sister, Katherine MacQueen, Taigh na Mara; sisters-in-law, Florence, Anita, Audrey, (Don), Lillian (Alf), Alice (Ray), Marion law; Betty(John) and Faye (Jerry) and brothers-in-law, Jerry and Johnny Martell. Also he is survived by a special niece, Kathy Munroe and numerous nieces and nephews.
Skipper was predeceased by brothers, Very Reverend Angus (Netta), Reverend Stanley, Donnie (Charity) and sister, Clara (Ernie) and a niece Sandy.
By request there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 at 2 p.m. in St. John’s United Church, Port Morien with Rev. Chris Matheson officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society or charity of choice.
