Arthur Birch
BIRCH, ARTHUR H. - Arthur H. Birch, age 90, of Dorchester, passed away peacefully at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Friday, November 4, 2011. Born in Moncton he was a son of the late Gordon and Flora (Hutchinson) Birch. Arthur was a veteran of World War II, serving in England with the Canadian Army. Following the war he worked for a few years at CN, then from 1955 to 1985 was a guard at the Dorchester Penitentiary from where he retired. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, a member of the Sussex Masonic Lodge # 4 F & AM and most recently the Dorchester Lions Club. He will be dearly missed by his son, James "Jim", Dorchester and a brother Jim (Irene), Montreal, QC.; brothers in law, Johnny, Lloyd and Roy; sisters in law, Marion and Joyce; several cousins, nieces and nephews He was predeceased by his wife Elva Atkinson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (506-364-1300) where visiting hours will take place on Monday from 7 to 9 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Sackville, will hold a Legion Memorial Service at the funeral home on Monday at 7 pm, followed by a memorial service by the Sussex Masonic Lodge #4. A private graveside service will take place in the Dorchester Rural Cemetery at a later date.
