Ronald Coffin, age 86, of River Hebert, passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Wednesday, October 28, 2009.
Born in Minto, NB, he was a son of the late Ottie and Lydia (Bryant) Coffin.
From 1942 - 1945, Ronald served with the RCNVR in Canada, the North Atlantic and Pacific. He was a life member of Br. 14 Royal Canadian Legion, River Hebert, serving as Secretary, and was active in all legion work, enjoyed darts, curling, hunting and golf. He held various jobs including Dr. D.M. Cochrane Lumber Trucks, coal mining with River Hebert Coal Co. for 19 years, serving as secretary of IMW Local. He retired in 1982 after working for the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires for 8 years.
Ronald will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Lorraine (Berry); 3 sons, Ronald (Linda), Edmonton, AB, Eric (Val), Fruitvale, BC, Michael (Patricia), Edmonton, AB; 1 daughter Catherine (Chris) White, Amherst; 5 grandchildren, Stephen, Brian, Robyn, Karlan and Katie; 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is also greatly missed by his caregiver, friends and neighbors, Lisa, Jacklyn, Jenna and Ward. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by 4 sisters, Lydia, Ethel, Annie, and Freda and 4 brothers, Russell, David, Robert and Joseph.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, River Hebert (251-2877), from where visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The remains will then be transferred to the Furlong Jones Chapel, 70 Church St., Amherst for funeral service Monday, November 2, 2009 at 11 am. Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, River Hebert.
