We regret to announce the peaceful passing of Viola MacDonald, 88, on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Florence on June 19, 1923, Viola was the daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Barrie) MacDonald. She was a member of St. Stephen’s parish, Florence.
Viola spent most of her early years working in the Boston area of the United States. In her retirement, she returned to Cape Breton.
She is survived by her son, Billy (Eileen), Sydney Mines; daughter, Beth Bowen, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Amy Lyn, Andrew, Terri and Matthew; and a great-granddaughter, Abby. Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters, Mary (Mike) Garagan, Halifax, Anne Hutchinson, Digby, and Carol Johnston, North Sydney; brothers, Cecil (Selena) and Connie (Rosella), both of Sydney Mines, William (Edna), Florence, Frank (Heather), Halifax; and sisters-in-law, Nan and Donna.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Fred, Harold, Billy, Barrie, Joe, David and Edward, and sisters, Muriel, Helene, Vivian and Barbara.
At her request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, Florence, with Fr. Thomas John officiating.
