It is with broken hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Harold Hardy, 77, of Balls Creek, on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, Harold was a son of the late Thomas and Hilda (Rossiter) Hardy.
Harold worked all of his life at North Sydney Marine Railway as a ships carpenter, scuba diver and in later years cradle master. During his retirement he enjoyed working in his work shop, gardening and keeping his property looking nice. Harold was a member of Christ the King Anglican Church, Sydney, and a longtime member of the Northern Yacht Club, North Sydney.
Harold is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen (Burns) Hardy; his son, Kirk (wife Elizabeth) Hardy of Coxheath; grandchildren, J.J. and Joshua; his sister, Edith (Gordon) Bonnar, New Brunswick; brother-in-law, Jim Hiscock, P.E.I.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Hardy, North Sydney.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Audrey Hiscock and Edith Hardy in infancy, two brothers, Wilfred Hardy, Claude Hardy.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. William MacDonald, the staff at Northside General Hospital and the Northside Community Guest Home for the care shown to Harold and the family over the years.
At Harold’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service, cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney, with Rev. Laura MacCue officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
