Orpha Matthews
Born In: Saskatchewan, Canada
Passed in: Saskatchewan, Canada
MATTHEWS: Orpha Mae Matthews (nee: Niebeling) passed away on October 27th, 2009 at Cypress Regional Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She will be remembered by friends from the south Saskatchewan communities of Neville, Cadillac, Vanguard and Pambrun.
Orpha was predeceased by her husband Fred, her parents Nick and Desty Niebeling and her sister Ruth. Left to mourn her passing are family Pat and Mel Matthews, Margaret Gidinsky, Elaine and Raymond Bye, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Orpha was born on September 23, 1921 on a farm near Cadillac where her family farmed. She attended school at Cadillac by driving a team of horses and delivering cream and eggs around town before school each morning. Orpha's father died in 1938 so farming became difficult for the women left behind. In 1942 Orpha left home to work for Mrs. Alford from Neville and then moved to Regina to work at Sears and the Oliver Company. She and Fred married in 1955 and returned to farm in the Neville area. Orpha was an accomplished seamstress, a wonderful cook was very interested in firearms and was, by all accounts, a very good shot. She was a member of the Eagles for many years and a member of the Prairie Pistol Gun Club until her passing. Many of us will remember a woman who said "exactly" what she thought in some very colorful language and interesting sayings. The ones that knew her well, saw a woman who cared very much for the ones who were less fortunate and helped in little gestures to make their lives better. There will be no funeral service as for Orpha's wishes. Interment of her cremated remains will take place in the family plot at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donors' choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Warren's funeral home. Friends wishing to express their sympathy are invited to visit our website book of condolences at www.warrensfuneralhome.com
