Elizabeth (Beth) Ames
It is with indescribable sadness that the family of Elizabeth (Beth) Ames announces her passing on November 3, 2011 following an extended hospital stay. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years Charles Ames; daughters Nancy Young (Ken), Barb Ames, Susan Ames (Trevor Williams); granddaughters Michelle Marud, Melissa Tysowski (Kevin), Rachelle Young, Vanessa Young; great granddaughter Alizabeth Tysowski; sister in law Hazel Ames, brother in law Bob Mantach and numerous nieces and nephews. Beth was predeceased by her parents Earl and Ida Good; sisters Audrey Mantach and Jackie Adams; son Robert Ames and son in law Brian Kay. Beth was born December 4, 1932 in Holbein, SK where she lived briefly before moving to a farm south of Moose Jaw in the Mayberry District. She married the love of her life Charles in July 1953 and they welcomed and raised their children in a number of cities before settling back in Moose Jaw in 1968. They made lifelong friends wherever they lived. Beth worked outside of the home at the Bank of Montreal and in dietary at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital, but her most memorable role was as mother, homemaker and eventually an amazing grandmother. Beth loved cooking, baking, entertaining and travelling to visit friends and family throughout the country. Her grandchildren loved her dearly and enjoyed all the time and memories they shared with her. She was always sure to prepare their favourite foods including the world’s best chocolate chip cookies. Beth’s great granddaughter, and namesake, Alizabeth arrived in 2009 and they shared many special moments. Beth was looking forward to the arrival of her second great grandchild in January. Family and friends were of primary importance; however the church also played a large role in her life. Beth was involved in a number of activities including local, provincial and national UCW groups, several Presbytery committees, and was active in the World Day of Prayer. She also assisted with the selection of United Church ministers and participated in several church women’s groups. Beth served as noble grand for the Rebekah Lodge and enjoyed the friendships formed with her Rebekah sisters. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made to the Odd Fellows & Rebekah Visual Research Foundation c/o W.J. Jones Funeral & Son. A Funeral Service to celebrate her life will take place on Wednesday November 9, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Zion United Church in Moose Jaw. Reverend Doug Hallman and Della Ferguson will officiate.
