On Wednesday, October 28, 2009, wife, Mom, Nannie, sister and friend, Greta passed away peacefully in Cedarstone Enhanced Care with her daughter Heather at her side. Greta was born on November 3, 1930 in Kemptown, the youngest child of the late Vernon and Florence “Flossie” Stevens. At the young age of nine, she moved to Ste. Catharines to live with her sister, Hazel who was like a Mom to her. Mom was a homemaker most of her life returning to work as a secretary in later years. She was an active member of the Old Barns United Church where she was on Session, an Elder and secretary of the church where she was responsible for the bulletin and the Outreach News. She was a member of Truro Lionettes, Beta Sigma Phi, volunteered with the hospital auxiliary and was involved within the school community. Mom’s warm hospitality, sense of humor and loving ways as well as her passion for life brought joy to all who knew and loved her. Mom will be sadly and forever missed by her loving husband, Laurie; daughters, Heather (Lorne Temple), Valley, Laurel (Larry Nelson), Fletcher Lake and their children, Tyler and Hayley; son, Don (Christine), Old Barns and their children, MacKenzie and Jacob; sisters, Millie, Jean; brother, Lorne. She was predeceased by sisters, Hazel and Florence. Visitation will be held on Greta’s birthday, Tuesday, November 3rd from 12 noon until time of the memorial service at 2:00 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Ian Harrison officiating. Reception to follow the service. Private family interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Deep gratitude and thanks to all the nurses and staff at Cedarstone Enhanced Care who lovingly cared for Mom, also Dr. Bower and the staff at Colchester Regional Hospital.
