NEW GLASGOW – Evelyn Jean Clyburne, 84, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 30, 2009 in the Villa, surrounded by her family.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Peter and Mary Jane (Benoit) DeYoung.
In earlier years, she was employed with the former Mattress Factory, the former Metropolitan Store and as a pastry chef at the Aberdeen Hospital until retirement. She enjoyed cake decorating, making teddy bears and doing crafts. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt.
Surviving are her daughters: Patsy Cook (Harvey Treby), Linacy; Elaine (John) Russell, New Glasgow; Verna (Charlie) Paton, Linacy; sons, Stewart (Mary Katherine) Clyburne, Linacy; Brian (Lorraine) Clyburne, Lwr. Sackville; sister, Blanche Fraser, New Glasgow; brothers, Ralph (Bubs) DeYoung, New Zealand; Elmer (Ann) DeYoung, New Glasgow; grandchildren: Donnie, Phillip, Kevin, Tanya, Margie, Allie, Lisa, Michael, Angie, Bud and Brody; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Martell Clyburne; sisters: Margaret Phalen, Alice Best, Dolena Stewart, Agnes Sutherland and Cecilia Sagar; brothers: Joe, Bert, Wally, John, Pat and Frank.
The family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. Sunday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
