It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Raymond Campbell Lewis, announce his passing on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, Ray was the son of the late Bert and Philena (Campbell) Lewis.
Ray was plumber by trade and was the founding member of local 682, Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He worked for numerous plumbing companies before taking a teaching position with the Vocational School on Prince Street, retiring in 1988 after 23 years service.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Catherine (MacDonald); seven children, Sandra (Bob) Hussey, Neil (Dale), Rebecca, Bert (Maurina), Margaret (Michael) Gushue, Cathy (Ray) MacDonald and Harvey (Heather); 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Harvey and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Ray was predeceased by his son, John; daughter, Norma O’Shea; brothers, Owen and John; granddaughter, Allison and grandson, Derrick.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church on Monday 2 p.m., with Rev. Maggie Coleman officiating. Interment in Eastmount Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Church, Organ Donation Foundation or Palliative Care.
