After a long and fulfilling life, Constance (Connie) Grace Oxley (Smith) wife of the late George Edward Oxley, passed away on October 29, 2009 at the Harbourstone Nursing Home in Sydney.
Born in Halifax on August 3, 1913, she was the daughter of Edith and George Smith and was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been predeceased by her four siblings, Beatrice, Elsie, Donald, and Edith. She was predeceased by her husband George in 1970.
Well known in the community for her knitting, especially tartan socks, she taught knitting classes at Time Out. She was a charter member of the Sydney Y’s Menettes and longtime member at St. George’s Anglican Church and Guild. She had a lifetime passion for crossword puzzles.
She is survived by three daughters, Judith (Wilber) MacLeod of Rothesay, NB, Christine (Alexander) MacDonald of Fredericton, NB, Janet (Carl) Caldwell of Lower Sackville, NS; one son Frederick (Laura) of Sydney; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. in Sydney Memorial Chapel. Interment to take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
